From the connections
“Takarengo is a very good jumper but he can lose lengths at times and I'm not sure if hurdling is for him. If the owner wants to run him at Punchestown or somewhere like that then maybe we can look at that but I think the main target is the Cesarewitch, which he was third in last year. There's a few nice pots between now and then and he needs a bit of nice ground, he's not a good-to-firm ground horse. He was in real good order and today was his day to win a race over hurdles - Tom Mullins, trainer.”
“Today was all about getting him right for either next weekend or the weekend after. There's a 50 grand handicap here next weekend and there's a 100 grand one in Naas the following week. He'll get a nice little slap from the handicapper now, I suppose he's entitled to, and it'll give him a decent weight in either handicap. Then we'll think about hurdling or something. he could do anything. He could even be an Ebor horse for next year and he could go further - Tom Mullins, trainer”
“We were fancying him coming here. A mile and a half or two miles would be no problem to him. I thought the ground would be worse than it was, they say it's heavy but I don't think it is. When the two horses ran off the bend it wasn't a help, making his own running is the last thing this lad wants. We'll try to sneak into a good handicap over a mile and six or two miles. He's too low for the Cesarewitch but the front two today came away from the rest - Ben [Coen] said they came to him twice and he pulled out more for him twice. More than likely he'll go hurdling in time, he's a big raw horse - Tom Mullins, trainer of Takarengo”
