Ombudsman
Second in this last year on his reappearance and he's won three Group 1 races since (1m2f/1m1f, good to firm/good), the latest the Dubai Turf at Meydan in March on his sole outing this year; John Gosden has said that this is "going to bring him on to where we want him at (Royal) Ascot" but he'll be very tough to beat under a 7lb penalty if close to the top of his game.

“That was a great sense of relief. It's not easy coming out of a winter in England and I think Ombudsman will come on for the race. He was coming here at 90% but it was enough to get the job done. I think William was wise, he thought he'd give the ground away by coming wide, lose the ground there but get a clear run in the straight. He'll go to Royal Ascot now for the Prince of Wales's and we'll see how we go from there - John Gosden, joint-trainer.Ombudsman showed there on his first run of the year what he can do in a very competitive field. A lot of the runners had run this winter and I'm very pleased with him. It was very smooth and he's going to have an exciting year - William Buick, jockey.”
“Ombudsman ran a super race. He's had some season. We had a slightly awkward draw and there was a very good pace to run at. It was always going to be between myself and Calandagan [as it unfolded]. I took the race to him but his stamina probably kicked in and in the last furlong he pulled away. I'm proud of his run - William Buick, jockey.”
“I didn't expect Danon Decile to take back, I thought he wanted to chase the pace. Rab did his job beautifully and his horse finished third. Ombudsman put in an amazing performance, unbelievable, so I'm delighted with him. He's a very, very special horse and he showed all his attributes today - William Buick, rider, speaking to ITV Racing.”
“We thought Delacroix would go forward and the French horse [Sosie] would sit handy but of course it's all happened the other way round. That happens in small fields and it didn't turn out the way we thought. Ombudsman has run a wonderful race. We were trapped rather wide, got close to the pace and Delacroix has then come and run as down late. It was one of those kind of races with a small field that can get messy but full marks to the winner who has gone and outstayed the lot of them - John Gosden, joint-trainer.”
“Sheikh Mohammed is without doubt the nicest and easiest owner I've ever trained for, he says 'do what we think is right'. We ran Ombudsman a little tenderly last year, listed, Ryan [Moore] rode him in Deauville, won a Group 3, put him away. He's come back this year and ran a super race in the Brigadier Gerard - I think the winner of that is exceptional - we were giving 3lbs, he got first run, but I think if the ground had been there, he'd have been with us today. But he's a special horse and it's just a question of an owner giving you the time to let them mature and get there, I never get pushed, he'll never be the horse he was unless I had such a patient owner. He's got a turn of foot and he [Buick] knew it, it was a matter of getting out but I did notice when he finally got daylight there was a furlong to go - John Gosden, joint-trainer. Ombudsman was impressive. They went a hard gallop. I was always going to have to ride for a bit of luck, and he quickened instantly. I thought he was impressive. He is a cool horse, a very talented horse. They went a hard gallop. We were drawn one, we always thought they would go a good gallop. We had to ride for a bit of luck and I had to look for a couple of gaps. The horse was good enough to quicken up from it; he quickened up well and won well in the end. He was the unknown quantity in the race. I thought he was impressive, very impressive. I think that was a taste of what's to come for sure. He's got low miles on the clock, he's an exciting horse for sure - William Buick, jockey.”
“At halfway you were relying on things to happen from where I was. Luckily, they did happen. Ombudsman will be far better off a stronger pace. Every horse is better on better ground but he did it again today and I think he won with a good bit up his sleeve. I don't think we can stand here and say how far he will go. He's gone so far already, so I see no reason why he won't go further. He's a great-to-look-at individual - William Buick, jockey.”
“That was an Irish-English race. I've never seen them go that fast around here in a three-year-old race. Ombudsman did it well and he's a lovely horse but not one to overrace this year. It will be all about next year - John Gosden, joint-trainer”
“They went a good pace and Ombudsman was green early on before getting the hang of it late on. He found a lot off the bridle and Benoit said he'd get further - Danny Harrap, assistant trainer.”
