Saddadd
Rose through the ranks last season, winning back-to-back handicaps at Newbury (1m2f, good to firm) and Sandown (1m2f, soft); took the next step forward when landing Group 3 honours at Sandown (1m2f, good) on seasonal return (a race commonly won by high-class performers); enters the big league now but further improvement is by no means ruled out for a four-year-old having just his eighth start.

From the connections
“Saddadd was impressive. I was hopeful he'd run really strong today as he's had a good preparation. He has a great attitude, a really good way of going and he'd wintered well and he's worked super all spring. We wanted to learn today and get the direction for the year ahead and we weren't sure coming into this whether we'd be sticking at ten furlongs or going up to a mile and a half. He's a very relaxed horse and both are options, though I don't think we need to go a mile and a half just yet. He's in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, and I could see him enjoying the Curragh as a track, but does he need to tackle that just yet? We'd love to maybe come back here for the Eclipse, so it's about getting there. We could go to the Brigadier Gerard under a penalty or to Ireland - Roger Varian, trainer.Saddadd is an absolute legend of a horse. There were question marks about whether we were going to run him over a mile and a half depending on how he ran today but he's actually got quicker. He puts himself in a race wherever you need him and he seems as though he's taken a step forward from last year. He's exciting - Ray Dawson, jockey, speaking to Racing TV.”
“I've always really liked Saddadd is a beautiful animal, lovely to look at, and my five-year-old girl could take him down to the start - he's so relaxed. We always thought he wanted some dig in the ground. He's genuine and an exciting horse. I think he was trying to give it all but he was still learning on the way round, finding his balance around the bend on the soft ground. He's picked up well and I think on more suitable ground with a bit of dig, you'll see a better horse. It was an impressive win carrying a lot of weight - Ray Dawson, rider.”
“Saddadd is a very laid back horse with a big heart. I think he'll keep improving but I do think he'll appreciate a bit more give in the ground when it comes. He's shown a lot of grit today. This race has a great history of producing Pattern performers and he might deserve a crack at something like the Hampton Court - Roger Varian, trainer.”
“It was a lovely performance. I thought Saddadd would be a bit green early on, which he was jumping out and finding his stride, but I got into a nice rhythm, a nice sort of pocket to teach him a bit about having horses either side of him. He took a little bit of winding up, but once he did get into top gear, and I had the rail to just help me out a bit, the penny started to drop late on and he finished off good - Jack Mitchell, jockey, speaking to Sky Sports Racing.”
