Falcon Eight
Classy stayer on the Flat but getting long in the tooth; infrequent runner over hurdles nowadays and was well behind when unseating late on at the festival here.

From the connections
“Falcon Eight is as tough as teak and was unlucky not to win the last two runnings of the Irish Cesarewitch. He deserved to win a race like this. He's been a cracking horse to train - Dermot Weld, trainer”
“Falcon Eight loves to come from off the pace and got a very good ride. He doesn't do things quickly and likes to warm his way into it. He's a grand stayer, a Chester Cup winner, but he just didn't get the run of the race for the second year running. Maybe he'll come back for a third time next year - Dermot Weld, trainer.”
“Falcon Eight was always going to get there from a furlong out and he won easily at the line. He'll probably go back over hurdles now after a break - Kris Weld, assistant trainer.”
“Falcon Eight did it well. The ground was probably slower than ideal but he jumped well. We need to get more experience under his belt - Kris Weld, assistant trainer.”
“The plan was for Frankie to take his time. Falcon Eight had top weight and the ground wasn't ideal so patience was key. The reason Frankie likes riding my horses is because I love them to get into a rhythm and that suits Frankie. He waited until the horse handled the track and the ground and then said 'right, let's go.' The rest is history. The Ascot Stakes or the Queen Alexandra will be his next port of call now. We'll aim him at Royal Ascot. I have an eye on the Melbourne Cup for him later in the year too - Dermot Weld, trainer.”
“He is learning how to be a racehorse and is still very immature and is far from the finished article. We hope he will make into a very nice four-year-old next year and we've had to be patient with him and it's paying off. He'll have one more run this year in six weeks' time. He won't be a St Leger horse this year but it would be lovely if he made into an Irish St Leger horse next year; it's a race dad has a good record in so it would be nice to add to it. We'll take baby steps for now and see where we end up - Kris Weld, assistant to Dermot Weld, trainer”
“Falcon Eight has been a very late-maturing horse but I was certain he would run a nice race today. He is a colt with a lot of long term potential and today is only the start. He should be a very nice staying horse next year - Dermot Weld, trainer.”
