Powerful Glory
Looked smart when landing the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury (6f, heavy) on final juvenile start; beat only one rival in his first two races last term; produced massive shock (200-1) when beating the favourite Lazaat in 6f Group 1 at Ascot last October (good); wind-surgery evidently the key to that success; little mileage on the clock, fascinating prospect for this season.

From the connections
“I always felt Powerful Glory was going to get there if that makes sense. It's fantastic. It was the plan all year, genuinely. We had a blip halfway through and we had to stop with him, and we were running out of races. Did I think he would come here and win? I thought he would need to be at his very best because he's still an immature horse because he's only had four runs. It was a Spencer special. I thought Jamie would suit him well, just get him to switch [off,] relax and leave him alone - Richard Fahey, trainer,I'm lost for words. Powerful Glory is a good horse and we obviously travelled nicely. I thought I was going to be placed and then all of a sudden, I thought 'I've got a chance'' He jinked a little bit left and I've put my whip away and we've held on. I'm just shocked really - Jamie Spencer, jockey.”
“I thought I was in a bit of trouble. It's not easy out there but ability can get them through most ground, and I think he's got plenty of it. Everything Powerful Glory has shown has been speed but he's big and scopey as well and, if learns to relax and race right, there's no reason why he can't get further. At home there's nothing really we have to gallop with him, so I think he's pretty smart - Oisin Orr, rider.”
“We do like Powerful Glory. He was my favourite breeze-up horse this year and I'm just delighted Sheikh Rashid bought him. You're a bit nervous when you've got a nice one and I thought they weren't quick enough to lead him. That was grand. He's a big, scopey lad. We gave him a little flick to see if we thought Ascot would be for him but he's still on the leg, he's still weak. Fair dos to Sheikh Rashid, he said do whatever you want with him and I said I'd give him a bit of time. He's in the Mill Reef Stakes and that's his target. He might go for the 5f race at Ayr as well, he's a very fast horse - Richard Fahey, trainer.”
