Racing Post Spotlight

Top 6f 2yo, completing a notable hat-trick with wins in Group 3 at Royal Ascot, Group 2 at Newmarket (July) and Group 1 at Deauville (all good/good to firm); seemed fine at 7f (ran on after meeting trouble) when third in the Moyglare at the Curragh (yielding) on her final start but shaped like a non-stayer when stepped up to 1m for 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket on reappearance; remains open to progress back at 6f; leading claims.

3 May 2026·Betfred 1000 Guineas Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies) · Newmarket
I've only had a brief chat with Cliff [Lee] and he didn't think Venetian Sun stayed. She hit the gates very strong and had no cover ? her draw didn't help. Two out, I thought she was getting on the tail of Venetian Lace, and I thought here we go. But she just petered out in the final furlong and we'll look at going down the Commonwealth Cup route now with her - Karl Burke, trainer.
24 Aug 2025·Sumbe Prix Morny (Group 1) (2yo Colts & Fillies) (Straight Course) (Turf) · Deauville
Venetian Sun is unbelievable, she does everything so relaxed. I've been saying for a little while that she's a special filly and she's proved it there. Early on in the year she stood out in the string and I said to her owners a month ago, she doesn't quite stand out as much and the others have caught her up a little bit, but she's still got so much ability. She'll be better with easier ground. I was very worried when I walked the ground earlier, it's as quick as I've known it here and I've been coming for a number of years now. That dampened my confidence. She'll be better over an extra furlong as well, I'm convinced of that, so we'll go for the Moyglare next and see where we go from there. It will tell us if she's a Classic filly but she's got to prove it. She's got a temperament to die for - Karl Burke, trainer, speaking on Sky Sports Racing.
11 Jul 2025·Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (Sponsored By bet365) (Group 2) (Fillies) · Newmarket (July)
When Venetian Sun cruised to the front, she went a couple of lengths clear and thought it was all over. Ed's [Walker] horse quickened up nicely and Cliff [Lee] just said Venetian Sun was just dossing a bit in front. She is a filly a bit like that as she's so laidback and I also think the ground was on the quick side for her today. She is a very high-class filly. I think the Lowther would be out for her now as she has won a Group Two. She is in the Prix Morny and we'll have a look at that but we are very keen to step up to seven furlongs in the Moyglare. Her pedigree says she is more a miler at least and a three-year-old. She's a very mature filly with a great engine. I think she can be better on better ground and over a trip. She relaxes so well in behind. I think racing against the very best horses will bring out the best in her - Karl Burke, trainer.
20 Jun 2025·Albany Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies) · Ascot
I think Venetian Sun is a a very special filly. The work she has done at home, I haven't had a 2yo filly do work like it; just the last six weeks. She's kicking older group horses out the way at home. I worked a good, old work horse with her about a month ago or just after her debut and I had to work her with another good one that I knew was reliable and she did the same to him and I'm talking 110 rated horses. I think she's very special - Karl Burke, trainer. Karl did say she was the 2yo filly he's had, so we had a lot of confidence in her. So we were confident and happy to back him, and he did a great job with her. I don't think everything went for her - tough draw and she didn't have much cover, so yeah - Ian McAleavy, joint-owner.
19 May 2025·British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes (GBB Race) · Carlisle
Cliff [Lee, jockey] gave Venetian Sun a lovely ride and he said he ended up hitting the front too soon and she was just dossing about a bit in front. It's just greenness and she'll learn loads from that. It was a very good race for the grade and I would say she's very, very useful. If she goes to Royal Ascot it will be the Albany I would think, she's a real six-furlong filly - Karl Burke, trainer.
