We were a little underwhelmed at Newbury, he didn't really look perfect but today was better. They drew clear of the third too, which is a good sign. He likes a battle. If he's fit and well, he'll go to Epsom - William Haggas, trainer.Maltese Cross was an extremely exciting horse for us over the winter and we expected a lot from him at Newbury, but it actually left a few questions to be answered as he didn't win by far. “I liked the way he stayed on up the hill. Maltese Cross wants a mile and a half really but I'm never too keen to run them too far at two. We'll probably leave him now as he's a nice horse for next year. I think he'll learn a lot from that and he liked the ground, so we'll aim him at a race in the spring and see where we are.
