Racing Alpha's AI assigns every UK and Irish runner a 0-100 score combining official rating (OR), Racing Post rating (RPR), top-speed figure (TS), trainer 14-day form, days since last run, class, going, and draw. A daily tip is then selected as the highest-rated horse in a race that passes a v1.3 eligibility filter — designed to exclude high-variance niches (very small fields, very long-odds, very young horses) where the model's edge thins out. Every selection is logged before the off and settled publicly on the performance ledger. No retroactive edits.
Common questions
What are the three Racing Alpha models?
v1.0 is the public heuristic picker (the model behind the daily free tip). v1.1 is an ML challenger (CatBoost classifier trained on 12 months of UK + IRE racing with pace and Betfair drift signals) running in shadow mode. Furlong is a hand-curated three-pick daily list ignoring the segment filters. All three pick before the off and settle publicly on /head-to-head, so the market — and you — can see which is actually delivering edge in real time.
Can the daily tip be a non-runner or a long shot?
It can be both. The model picks the highest-rated runner in a v1.3-eligible race; if the field is competitive, the pick can land anywhere on the market. The model doesn't bias toward favourites — its edge is in finding misprices, which usually means horses backed in at non-favourite prices. Average advised price across the v1.0 model is around 6.0 (5/1).
Where can I see how the AI has done historically?
Three places: /performance shows the public ledger of every settled tip. /head-to-head compares the three models side by side with bankroll trajectories. /clv (Closing Line Value) shows whether the AI's advised prices beat the closing market — the proper credibility metric. All three update automatically after each race settles.
Is Racing Alpha a tipping service or a data tool?
Both. The free daily tip is the front door; the deeper value is the data layer behind it — every UK & IRE racecard with live AI scores, per-horse career charts, pace maps, trainer/jockey combos, CLV ledgers, head-to-head model dashboards. The site is built to be a punter's research workspace, not just a pick service.
