Racing Post Spotlight

Beat stablemate True Love on debut before landing the Coventry Stakes; second in three consecutive Group 1 races, including the National Stakes and the Dewhurst; ended the campaign by overcoming a wide trip in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar (1m, firm); has evidently trained on and can go one better than in the 2,000 Guineas by upholding form with Distant Storm.

2 May 2026·Betfred 2000 Guineas Stakes (Group 1) (No Geldings) · Newmarket
I am pleased with Gstaad and that was a great run. Ryan [Moore] was very happy today and he has done everything right. It was his first run of the year, and you can see he's a big horse. It was great to get him started. I think there were two lengths between us and the winner (it was actually two and three-quarter lengths) and eight lengths back to the third. We couldn't be happier really. He's a big, powerful horse and that type of horse can only progress. We used today as a start off and tried to do our best to win on his first start as a three-year-old. We are still delighted with how he has run. We always thought that he could go further, although I don't know where we would go from here. The Irish Guineas would be the logical step, and I imagine that's what the lads would be thinking about - Aidan O'Brien.

I didn't do anything really, I think Gstaad is just good. He's been a little bit unlucky in Europe on his last few starts, we should've won one of them. He jumped a bit slow today, but he was travelling very well in the first part of the race. When I saw there was a gap in the back straight to try to go forward and let him sit behind the pace, I made the move and I was cruising the whole way. I knew when I came out of the turn that I'd win. It's very rare to see amazing horses winning a Breeders' Cup hands and heels like that - Christophe Soumillon, jockey.

Next year Gstaad will be older and stronger, but he ran a good race and you have to be very happy with him. I think the race worked out lovely. He would be one for an English or Irish 2,000 Guineas - Aidan O'Brien, trainer.
24 Aug 2025·Sumbe Prix Morny (Group 1) (2yo Colts & Fillies) (Straight Course) (Turf) · Deauville
Gstaad ran a great race, we're delighted. It's a long time since he ran but we're over the moon. We had it in our head he could go back to the National Stakes, so that's where he could go next. He'd have no problem with seven furlongs - Aidan O'Brien, trainer, speaking on Sky Sports Racing.
17 Jun 2025·Coventry Stakes (Group 2) · Ascot
Gstaad looks a very good horse, doesn't he? We've always loved him. He had only had the one run. He has always worked like a good horse. He's big, he's scopey, he has a good stride and is very genuine; he goes with his head down and he has loads of speed. He looks like he will get further than six [furlongs] - Aidan O'Brien, trainer.Gstaad was very impressive. I thought he travelled beautifully, and we got to the front a long way from home. He's a tall horse and is obviously improving with each run and that was a very good performance - Ryan Moore, jockey.

He was a little bit babyish going down but Gstaad was a pro in the race. When Wayne (Lordan) kicked he got a bit disorganised but from the furlong pole I always thought I was going to get there. I'll think he'll sharpen up for it, he'll get another furlong - Chris Hayes, jockey, speaking to Racing TV
